Infantino Sling Rider Recalled After 3 Deaths
The Infantino sling rider, a soft fabric baby carrier with a padded shoulder strap, has been recalled by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) after three babies died in the slings.
The Infantino sling rider’s can be returned anywhere they were sold. Customers are encouraged to contact Infantino and will receive a free item out of these choices:
- Wrap $ Tie infant carrier
- 2 in 1 Shopping Cart Cover
- 3 in 1 Grow & Play Activity Gym
These items will come in addition to a Jittery Pals Rattle. The three babies who died in the Infantino sling rider were a 7-week-old, 6-day-old and a 3-month-old. According to Don Mays of Consumer Reports, many babies who die in slings like this are preemies, twins, babies in fragile health and those with a low weight so he encourages parents to keep these children out of slings.
In the past 20 years, the CPSC has investigated 14 deaths in slings. This happens because the sling pushes the infants head up, which can restrict the airway. These Infantino sling rider’s thankfully were recalled before too many deaths happen, but keep in mind that these Infantino slings and other slings like them can be extremely dangerous. Whereas they might be very convenient in carrying your baby, especially during the hassle of travel and flying with a baby, note that there are other alternatives.
