Family Vacations

“Vacation used to be a luxury, however, in today’s world, it has become a necessity.”

Truer words were never spoken. In today’s busy world of 50-hour work weeks, after school practices/lessons, evening classes online and the never ending struggle of trying to get your family to eat at a table (with the TV off) overwhelms us all. This is where a family vacation sweeps in and saves the day.

A family vacation gives you the excuse to fly, drive or swim away from the ordinary and experience something extraordinary with your family. Getting away from the onDemand television and the iPads and computers can give you the time with your family that you never get at home, even when everyone is in the house together.

Finding the perfect travel and leisure family vacations can be challenging, but is also worth it in the end. Family travel deals are everywhere, as long as you know where to look! Choosing between the beach vs. mountains, resorts vs. budget motel and full family outings vs. kid activities are debates that need to happen not just between parents, but with the children as well. Involving your kids in the planning of the family vacation will get them more excited and give them a feeling of importance in the family.

Family Vacation Travel Spots

Choosing the destination for your family vacation is the first step. Of course, figuring out the vacation budget is a necessary planning step that can sometimes be overlooked or undervalued. If you’re traveling domestically and trying to keep the price range fairly reeled in here are some of the top family vacation travel destinations in the US for a family on a budget:

  • Orlando, Florida – Orlando offers free outings at the beach, or slightly more pricey family fun found in the multiple theme parks surrounding this city. Stay cool in the humid weather by visiting a water park, the hotel pool or the sandy beaches.
  • Williamsburg, Virginia – If you want to add some history and education to your family vacation’s entertainment, Williamsburg is the perfect spot. Spend a day in Colonial Williamsburg, an area filled with actors portraying life in the 1770s, and spend the next day at Busch Gardens amusement park!
  • Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Known for being a budget-friendly and family-friendly family vacation destination, Myrtle Beach offers fun in the sun for a fraction of the price of island resorts. The smaller version of Atlantic City boardwalk offers fun T-shit shops, arcades, and restaurants that can feed any appetite. Stay at a hotel on the beach, or at one of the many camping facilities around the town.
  • Yellowstone National Park – Visiting Yellowstone is not just for nature enthusiasts. Bring your kids to watch the burbling mudholes and exploding geysers; travel through the hills and mountains that home elk, moose and bear. Once in the park it is free, although if you are camping or doing other activities it does incur a fee.
  • New York City – The big apple is a terrific place to take teenagers. Visit the (free to enter) National History Museum to let the kids feel independent by being able to go off by themselves in a safe environment; shop till you drop at Time Square and let the kids take pictures with street performers; buy merchandise from street vendors; travel to Ellis Island; visit Ground Zero. Although pricier than our other options, NYC is a terrific outing that children can learn from and be entertained through.

These areas are just a few of the many available for family vacations that offer fun for all age groups.
