Travel Fun for the Kids – National Geographic Contest

Travel Fun for the Kids – National Geographic Contest

January 25, 2010 in Family Travel Advice

Real journeys only happen in the imagination – at least that’s what Bruce Chatwin, the famous British traveler, whose books ranged from Patagonia to Russia, Benin to China, once said. While he obviously thought real travel was worth the effort, it is true that the imagination is an important part of travel – especially for kids.

The National Geographic’s flag creating contest is a great way to fire up your kid’s imagination about travel and exploration. The contest is open to US citizens from 8-14 years old. The flag design must represent ocean exploration and the protection of ocean ecosystems, and be accompanied by a 250 word essay describing what inspired the design.

Entries must be in by Feb. 20, 2010 and the winning flag will be flown on the National Geographic Ocean Now expedition ship during its outing in 2010. The winner will also receive a patch bearing his/her flag design.

Details on the contest rules can be found here.
